A trainer, referee and administrator in Chicago soccer for decades. Maher was trainer of the Chicago Sparta club in its professional years from 1927 to 1938, including its U.S. Open Cup victory in 1938. He was president of the Peel Cup association for 10 years, referee of the 1948 U.S. Open Cup final and president of both the Illinois Referees Association and the National Soccer League of Chicago. Inducted in 1970.
